Chakra Meditation: Activate Your Energy Centers

Each chakra holds a specific meaning for our body, mind, and soul. The state of the chakras simultaneously represents the state of consciousness. With chakra meditation, you can influence your state of consciousness and your spirituality. We will show you how this meditation works.

What Are Chakras?

The word chakra comes from Sanskrit and means “wheel, circle, or vortex.” Chakras are the energy centers in our body located along the spine.

At the lower end is the Kundalini, an energy reservoir depicted as a sleeping serpent. When this consciousness energy coils upward, the chakras are filled with awareness and blockages are recognized.

Location of the Seven Chakras

The chakras are mirrors of our state of consciousness and show very clearly where we stand: which themes and problems are pending, need to be overcome, or should be examined. Through them, we can recognize any problems and blockages in our development.

At the same time, we can significantly influence this development through work with the chakras, particularly meditation exercises. Activating, opening, cleansing, and healing the chakras has a corresponding influence on our state of consciousness and spirituality.

“Chakra meditation invites us to perceive our own energy more consciously and to get it flowing again. This is precisely where its potential for greater inner balance and clarity lies.”

Other meditation exercises, such as heart meditation, can also focus on specific chakras and promote an active opening of the energy channels. A Marma massage can further improve energy flows through physical acupressure.

In Ayurveda, alongside meditation and yoga, other factors such as Ayurvedic nutrition play an important role in promoting your holistic health on a physical, mental, and spiritual level. This keeps the bioenergies (called doshas in Ayurveda) in balance and compensates for imbalances. As you can see, energies in the body also play a role in Ayurvedic teachings, and chakra meditation can balance these as well.

Overview of the Seven Chakras

There are a total of seven energy centers or chakras located in the human body. Usually, one chakra is individually more pronounced and shapes a person’s basic type or personality. All energy centers are assigned specific symbols as well as a number of petals, which indicates the number of energy channels originating there.

7 Chakra Meditation: Instructions and Script for Reading Aloud

The chakra meditation takes about 30 to 40 minutes; make sure you are not disturbed during this time. You can find a beautiful spot in nature for this meditation or make yourself comfortable at home. To do this, turn off all electronic devices and treat yourself to a break from everyday life.

Below you will find chakra meditation instructions suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners. You can incorporate them into your Ayurvedic morning routine or perform them in the evening to ground yourself and let go of your thoughts and feelings.

Meditation in European Ayurveda

When you are ready, sit or lie down, make yourself as comfortable as possible, and close your eyes. Now direct your attention to your breath. Take a few deep breaths and feel the breath flowing through your entire body, relaxing all your muscles and joints.

As you breathe, pay attention to the thoughts that may still be going through your head but are becoming less and less important. You are now completely relaxed and ready for the chakra meditation. You can also use the following chakra meditation script for reading aloud if you would like to perform the exercise with others.

Now gently direct your breath to the perineum area, the seat of your Root Chakra. Breathe in and breathe out, trying to release all tension in this area.

Feel the energy field of your Root Chakra expanding with every further breath. Imagine long roots growing from your chakra into the ground, connecting you with the earth.

Feel the stability and vital force flowing to you from this connection. As your Root Chakra continues to expand, it glows with a red light; this light activates your 1st energy center and gives you a sense of security and safety.

Direct your attention to your Sacral Chakra; it is located about a hand’s width below your navel. Feel into this area very consciously—if you like, you are welcome to place a hand on your lower abdomen.

Breathe in and out deeply, taking in pure life energy to the fullest. With every further breath, the warmth and energy of the Sacral Chakra flows through you.

Now imagine an orange light illuminating your 2nd chakra; this light spreads throughout your entire abdominal cavity. It awakens your creativity and sensuality; you feel light and alive.

Sacral Chakra Meditation

Place your focus on the 3rd chakra; it is located a hand’s width above your navel. Breathe in and out in a relaxed manner and let the breathing happen naturally in its own rhythm.

Focus entirely on your solar plexus; with every breath, a yellow light expands in your Solar Plexus Chakra. First, it glows in a bright yellow and then becomes increasingly intense; like a fire, it burns away all your fears and worries.

Let this light energy spread into your body; it connects you with your gut feeling. Feel yourself coming completely into your center and shining from within.

Navel Chakra Meditation

Feel into your heart and your Heart Chakra; it lies in the center of the chest and also forms the center of the 7 chakras.

To connect with your heart energy, place your right hand on your heart, feel the breath again, and direct it toward the heart. Continue breathing like this for a few times, feeling your heartbeat and observing your feelings and sensations.

Imagine your heart being filled with a green light. You can strengthen this light by sending all your energies into your heart. The light expands further and further, and love and compassion flow from your heart.

You are connected to your heart energy. It opens your access to universal love; you are full of trust and confidence.

Heart Chakra Meditation

Direct your attention to your Throat Chakra; it is located at the level of your larynx. Perceive your breathing again and breathe in and out consciously, inhaling fresh air and exhaling old, stale air.

Feel the air flowing through and cleansing your throat. On the next inhalation, let blue light shine into your throat, opening your throat to the truth.

For with an open Throat Chakra, you can express your self freely and lovingly accept your mistakes and weaknesses; you are authentic and unique.

Throat Chakra Meditation

Direct your focus to the 3rd eye, the area between your eyebrows; this is where your Third Eye Chakra is located. Perceive your forehead space and release all tension here.

Imagine your forehead is the sky and violet light is expanding, pushing away all your negative thoughts (clouds). The sky becomes clearer and brighter, and your consciousness also arrives fully in the here and now.

Your forehead now feels pleasantly cool; your attention is directed inward. You trust completely in your inner wisdom and recognize your spiritual being.

Third Eye Chakra Meditation

Now feel into the final chakra, the Crown Chakra, which is located at the crown of your head. Perceive the space above your crown and let your energy flow there.

Feel a bright, clear light spreading from above into your 7th energy center, connecting you with the divine and your higher self.

An inner peace can now spread within you; you feel blissful and blessed.

Crown Chakra Meditation

All your chakras are now open and shining from within; feel your body as pure energy. Go through all the chakras again in peace, starting from the bottom.

Feel into your root energy, how it grounds and supports you. Consciously feel into your sacral energy, which processes your feelings. Direct your attention once more to the solar plexus; its energy shapes your thoughts. Feel your heart energy; it connects you with higher love.

Feel into your Throat Chakra; it supports you in speaking from your soul. Feel your forehead energy; it improves your conscious perception. And finally, feel your Crown Chakra again; it is the gateway to your higher self.

Feel for a moment, enjoying your relaxed body. You are pure energy; all your chakras are now activated. You are connected to the universe; you can recall this connection at any time if you feel stressed, unbalanced, or without support.

Now take three deep breaths in and out, beginning to move and stretch your body a little. Come back fully into the here and now.
