Chakra meditation: activate your energy centers

Each chakra has a specific meaning for our body, mind and soul. The state of the chakras also represents the state of consciousness. With a chakra meditation you can influence your state of consciousness and your spirituality. We will show you how this meditation works.

What are chakras?

The word chakra comes from Sanskrit and means "wheel, circle or vortex". Chakras are the energy centers in our body that are located along the spine.

At the lower end is the kundalini, an energy reservoir that is represented as a sleeping snake. When this energy of consciousness winds its way upwards, the chakras are filled with consciousness and blockages are recognized.

Seat of the seven chakras

The chakras are a mirror of our state of consciousness and show very clearly where we stand: which issues and problems are pending, should be dealt with or looked at. Through them we can recognize any problems and blockages in our development.

At the same time, we can significantly influence this development by working with the chakras, especially the chakra meditation exercises. Activating, opening, cleansing and healing the chakras has a corresponding influence on our state of consciousness and our spirituality.

Other meditation exercises such as heart meditation can also focus certain chakras and promote an active opening of the energy channels. A marma massage can further improve the energy flows through physical acupressure.

In Ayurveda, in addition to meditation and yoga, other factors such as Ayurvedic nutrition also play an important role in promoting your holistic health on a physical, mental and spiritual level. This keeps the bioenergies (called doshas in Ayurveda) in balance and compensates for imbalances. So you can see that energies in the body also play a role in Ayurvedic teachings and that chakra meditation can also balance them.

Overview of the seven chakras

A total of seven energy centers or chakras are located in the human body. In most cases, one chakra is individually more pronounced and characterizes the basic type or personality of a person. All energy centers are assigned certain symbols and a number of petals that indicate the number of energy channels originating there.

When you are ready, sit or lie down, make yourself as comfortable as possible and close your eyes. Now direct your attention to your breath. Take a few deep breaths and feel how the breath flows through your whole body, relaxing all your muscles and joints.

While you are breathing, pay attention to your thoughts, which may still be running through your head but are becoming less and less important. You are now completely relaxed and ready for the chakra meditation. You can also use the following chakra meditation text to read aloud if you would like to do the exercise with others.

Now gently direct your breath to the perineal area, the seat of your root chakra. Breathe in and out, trying to release all tension in this area.

Feel how the energy field of your root chakra expands with every breath you take. Imagine how long roots grow from your chakra into the ground and connect you to the earth.

Feel the stability and life force that flows to you from this connection. As your root chakra continues to expand, it shines in a red light, this light activates your 1st energy center and gives you a feeling of safety and security.

Focus your attention on your sacral chakra, which lies about a hand's breadth below your navel. Feel consciously in this area - if you like, you can place a hand on your lower abdomen.

Breathe in and out deeply, taking in pure life energy with full breaths. With every breath you take, the warmth and energy of the sacral chakra will flow through you.

Now imagine that an orange light illuminates your 2nd chakra, this light spreads throughout your entire abdominal area. It awakens your creativity and sensuality, you feel light and alive.

    Sacral chakra meditation

Focus on the 3rd chakra, which is located a hand's breadth above your navel. Breathe in and out in a relaxed manner and let your breathing happen naturally in your own rhythm.

Focus completely on your solar plexus, with each breath a yellow light expands into your solar plexus chakra. At first it shines in a bright yellow and then becomes increasingly intense, burning away all your fears and worries like a fire.

Let this light energy spread into your body, it connects you with your gut feeling. Feel how you come fully into your center and glow from within.

    Navel chakra meditation

Feel your heart and your heart chakra, which lies in the middle of your chest and also forms the center of the 7 chakras.

To connect with your heart energy, place your right hand on your heart, feel your breathing again and direct it towards your heart. Continue to breathe like this a few times, feeling your heartbeat and observing your feelings and sensations.

Imagine that your heart is now filled with a green light. You can strengthen this light by sending all your energies into your heart. The light continues to expand and love and compassion flow from your heart.

You are connected to your heart energy. It opens you up to universal love, you are full of trust and confidence.

    Heart chakra meditation

Direct your attention to your throat chakra, which is located at the level of your larynx. Become aware of your breathing again and consciously breathe in and out, inhaling fresh air and exhaling stale air.

Feel how the air flows through your throat and cleanses it. The next time you breathe in, let blue light radiate into your throat, opening your throat to the truth.

Because with an open throat chakra, you can express yourself freely and lovingly accept your faults and weaknesses; you are authentic and unique.

    Throat chakra meditation

Focus on the 3rd eye, the area between your eyebrows, where your forehead chakra is located. Notice your forehead area and let go of all tension here.

Imagine that your forehead is the sky and violet light expands, pushing away all your negative thoughts (clouds). The sky becomes clearer and brighter, but your consciousness also arrives completely in the here and now.

Your forehead now feels pleasantly cool and your attention is directed inwards. You trust your inner wisdom completely and recognize your spiritual being.

    Forehead chakra meditation

Now feel into the last chakra, the crown chakra, which is located at the crown of your head. Notice the space above the crown of your head and let your energy flow there.

Feel how a bright, clear light spreads from above in your 7th energy center, how it connects you with the divine and your higher self.

An inner peace can now spread within you, you feel blissful and blessed.

    Crown chakra meditation

All your chakras are now open and glowing from within, feel your body as pure energy. Calmly go through all the chakras again, starting from the bottom.

Feel into your root energy, how it grounds and supports you. Consciously feel into your sacral energy, which processes your feelings. Draw your attention back to the solar plexus, its energy shapes your thoughts. Feel your heart energy, it connects you with the higher love.

Feel into your throat chakra, it supports you to speak from your soul. Feel to your forehead energy, it improves your conscious perception. And finally, feel your crown chakra again, it is the gateway to your higher self.

Feel for a moment, enjoy your relaxed body. You are pure energy, all your chakras are now activated. You are connected to the universe, and you can call upon this connection again at any time if you feel stressed, unbalanced or without support.

Now breathe in and out deeply three times and start to move and stretch your body a little. Come back to the here and now.
