Your European Ayurveda® food table

Nutrition plays a central role in European Ayurveda®. This is because it keeps the three bioenergies in balance and can therefore be an important factor for your health, but also a trigger for illness. But how do you eat "properly"? To help you at home, our experts have prepared a comprehensive European Ayurveda® food table as a PDF.

Food recommendations for every dosha type

Here at the European Ayurveda Resort Sonnhof, we deal with our guests' nutritional questions on a daily basis. Which foods should Kapha types avoid and what brings your Vata back into balance? We give you the most important recommendations for each Dosha type.

Suitable foods for Vata

The vata dosha coordinates movements in the body and supports your memory. If it is imbalanced, restlessness, dry skin, stress, a merry-go-round of thoughts, digestive problems, hair loss, dissatisfaction, worries and frequent colds can indicate this.

To bring your bioenergy back into balance, we recommend spicy, bitter and tart foods in particular. They should also be easy to digest, rich in nutrients and warming. Raw vegetables are therefore not recommended. Instead, opt for a steamed, grilled or boiled method of preparation. This is gentler on your digestive organs and warms you up from the inside.

You should also opt for a warm meal for breakfast. How about a delicious porridge with baked fruit, for example? Discover more delicious breakfast recipes.

Nutrition tips for Pitta types

Pitta is the dosha of transformation and transformation and supports the digestive fire Agni. If it becomes imbalanced, you are probably easily irritable, often thirsty, have heartburn and burning eyes. To counteract this, it is important to eat the right food.

When it comes to dairy products, opt for quark, cream cheese, ghee and unsalted butter. Lupins, chickpeas, black and yellow lentils are also perfect sources of protein. Wholemeal products and rice are ideal sources of carbohydrates.

Basil, dill, peppermint, parsley, black pepper, caraway and aniseed are excellent for seasoning and refining your dishes.

How Kapha people eat optimally

Stability, calmness and regeneration are attributed to the Kapha dosha. It helps you to slow down and maintain inner balance. It can become problematic when Kapha gets out of hand. The digestive fire Agni does not blaze as hot as usual.

This can result in digestive and metabolic problems. Accordingly, anything that gets Agni going again is good for Kapha. Turmeric, thyme, ginger and garlic are spices that help you to bring Kapha into balance.

Discover Ayurveda herbs & spices now

Spices and herbs are as much a part of the Ayurvedic diet as a sense of balance is to yoga! And here, too, the correct use of ingredients is crucial. We offer a diverse selection of Ayurvedic spices and herbs.

Fresh, dried and bitter fruit is not only very healthy, but also balances bioenergy. Whole grains, cooked cereals, rice or corn are also beneficial for Kapha.

The digestive fire Agni

However, there is another important player in Ayurvedic nutrition: the digestive fire Agni. This is directly responsible for food utilization, energy production and cell renewal.

Drink warm water for digestion in Ayurveda

If one of the doshas is imbalanced, the digestive power is reduced. This in turn leads to a direct disturbance of the bioenergies. You can therefore remember this as a general rule: Only eat when you are really hungry. Most people confuse hunger with appetite and eat out of boredom or frustration.

Nowadays, so much happens on the outside that we have often lost touch with our innermost being and therefore also with our natural sense of hunger. It is therefore extremely important to find our way back to intuitive eating.
