Doshas and zodiac signs are two of humanity’s oldest systems of wisdom. They share the same goal: to help us understand ourselves. Both systems convey the same message in different ways: You are not a coincidence. There is a logic to your nature.
And when you learn to work with it instead of against it, a life of true well-being begins. This article invites you to take a fresh look at your zodiac sign—not as fate, but as a mirror. Not as a limitation, but as a map. For mind, body, and soul.
Key Takeaways: Longevity Nutrition in Ayurveda
Western astrology interprets our nature based on the positions of the stars at the time of our birth. Ayurveda interprets it based on our constitution—the unique blend of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha that shapes us from birth.
Both systems provide us with guidance for a holistically fulfilling life in harmony with ourselves, and they change over the course of the year.
- Aries ( March 21 – April 20): Pitta-dominant, mental acuity & leadership
- Taurus ( April 21 – May 21): Kapha-dominant, stable mind & endurance
- Gemini ( May 22 – June 21): Vata-dominant, curiosity & connection
- Cancer ( June 22 – July 22): Kapha-Vata, emotional reservoir & unconditional love
- Leo ( July 23 – August 23): Pitta-dominant, charisma & inspiration
- Virgo ( August 24 – September 23): Vata-Pitta, analytical mind & wisdom
- Libra ( September 24 – October 23): Vata-dominant, Diplomacy & Harmony
- Scorpio ( October 24 – November 22): Pitta-Kapha, spiritual depth & transformation
- Sagittarius ( November 23 – December 21): Vata-Pitta, visionary & full of energy
- Capricorn ( December 22 – January 20): Kapha-Vata, Planning & Discipline
- Aquarius ( January 21 – February 19): Vata-dominant, Connection & Change
- Pisces ( February 20 – March 20): Kapha-Vata, Empathy & Experience

Zodiac Signs and Doshas Throughout the Year
The order of the zodiac signs traditionally begins with Aries, as it marks the beginning of spring. The doshas also change in harmony with the cycle of nature and influence one’s lifestyle as well as the body and mind. Not every zodiac sign is assigned to just one dosha; there can also be mixed types.

Dosha: Pitta-dominant
Mentally: Aries is a pioneer. They think ahead, make quick decisions, and don’t need a long warm-up period. While others are still weighing their options, Aries is already in motion. This mental sharpness is their greatest gift and, at the same time, their greatest pitfall. For those who are always pushing forward easily overlook what’s essential: the present moment, their own inner voice, or the needs of others.
In the body: Pitta governs the head, eyes, and the digestive fire Agni in Aries. Aries individuals are prone to inflammation, headaches, skin irritation, and overheating. These are all physical signs that the inner fire has become too intense. Physically, Aries individuals are often robust and resilient, but they forget to allow their bodies to rest.
Ayurvedic recommendation: For Pitta-dominant Aries, cooling foods, coconut water, cilantro, bitter herbs, and regular Abhyanga oil massages are recommended to help them stay grounded.
In the Soul: The Aries soul is here to begin. It carries within it the spark of the new—the power to bring into being things that do not yet exist. Yet beneath the surface of courage often lies a deep fear: the fear of not being good enough if one stops fighting.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: The soul purpose of Aries is to lead courageously, but also to learn to pause. Their task is to dare to try new things and to inspire others. But their deeper purpose lies in drawing strength not from struggle, but from inner stillness.
Potential: When Aries learns to channel their passion rather than be driven by it, they become a true visionary—someone who not only starts things but also sees them through to completion.
What he gets to learn: patience and the art of waiting. Learn that strength also knows gentleness, and that the bravest of all adventures is the journey within.
Dosha: Kapha-dominant
Mentally: Taurus thinks slowly—and I mean that in the best possible way. He weighs his options, processes things thoroughly, and makes decisions with care. His mind is steady and reliable, but sometimes hard to sway. Change is perceived as a threat, even when it means growth.
Physical Characteristics: Kapha-dominant Taureans often have strong, enduring bodies with a well-proportioned build. The challenge lies in their tendency toward weight gain, water retention, sluggish digestion, and a lack of energy in the winter. Their bodies need stimulation, and warming spices such as ginger, turmeric, and black pepper, light meals, and regular exercise without pressure can help.
In the Soul: The Taurus soul is deeply grounded. It loves the sensual, the tangible, and the beautiful. It needs beauty like the air it breathes: music, good food, nature, or physical touch bring joy to Taurus. Beneath this sensual surface, however, there often lies a deep fear of losing possessions, security, or loved ones.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: Taurus’s soul purpose is to embody values—not just material ones, but deeper ones such as dignity, beauty, and endurance. Taurus is here to show that the earthly can be sacred. That pleasure is not a weakness, but gratitude in action.
Potential: Taurus has the potential to be a calming influence in a restless world. He can be the one others trust because he is grounded. When he builds his sense of security from within rather than from outside, he becomes unshakable.
What he gets to learn: Letting go . That true security doesn't come from possessions, but from trust in life. And that change doesn't mean loss, but transformation.
Dosha: Vata-dominant
In Spirit: The Gemini is a shower of sparks. Curious, quick as lightning, playful, brilliant, and sometimes so caught up in everything that they never really settle on anything. Geminis love ideas more than putting them into action, conversations more than quiet reflection, and possibilities more than decisions.
In the body: Vata manifests in the Gemini body through the nervous system: sleep problems, restlessness, forgetfulness, fluctuating energy levels, and a sensitive digestive system. The body reacts to mental overload with physical exhaustion, often without warning. According to Ayurveda, warmth, oil, and routines such as regular mealtimes can help. Ghee, sesame, and cardamom also help ground the body and can have a calming effect.
In the Soul: Gemini seeks connection through language, exchange, and an understanding of everything and everyone. Their soul is a bridge-builder between worlds. Yet deep down, there is often a feeling of not truly belonging anywhere, due to too many facets and too little center.
Purpose & Soul Mission: The soul mission of Gemini is communication as healing. They are here to spread knowledge, build bridges, and open up new perspectives. But their deepest mission lies in understanding their own multifaceted nature as a gift.
Potential: Geminis are natural bridges between worlds. Their potential lies in their gift for making complex ideas understandable, bringing people together, and opening up new ways of thinking.
What they can learn: Depth and the ability to endure silence. Gemini can remain true to themselves, even if it’s less entertaining. True freedom doesn’t lie in constant change, but in the ability to stay with oneself.
Dosha: Kapha-Vata
Mentally: Cancer is an archivist of feelings. They remember everything—every conversation, every gesture, every hurt. This emotional memory makes them an exceptionally empathetic person, but also someone who finds it hard to let go of the past. Decisions are made based on feelings and are rarely calculated.
In the Body: Cancer often experiences issues in the abdomen, chest, and lymphatic system: digestive sensitivity, hormonal fluctuations, water retention, and an immune system that reacts to emotional stress. Ayurveda recommends warming and easily digestible foods, fennel, cumin, and regular sweat baths (Swedana) to help release tension.
In the Soul: The soul of a Cancer is a guardian. It preserves, nurtures, and protects. Within it lies the deepest capacity for unconditional, maternal, and all-encompassing love. Yet this strength becomes a burden when she forgets to nurture herself as well. Many Cancers care for everyone else and, in doing so, starve inwardly.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: Cancer’s soul purpose is to create a home for others and, above all, for themselves. They are here to show that caring is not a weakness, but one of the most powerful forces in the world. They must learn to give from their own abundance rather than from a place of exhaustion.
Potential: When Cancer learns to treat itself with the same tenderness it shows others, it unleashes a healing potential that extends far beyond its immediate surroundings.
What he can learn: to set boundaries without feeling guilty. To let go of the past without losing the memories. He is loved not because of what he gives, but simply because of who he is.
Dosha: Pitta-dominant
In Spirit: The Lion’s spirit thinks in grand, vivid, and dramatic images. He loves recognition not out of vanity, but because he feels deeply that he has something to offer. His spirit is creative, generous, and a natural leader. The challenge lies in confusing value with attention: he believes he can only shine when others are watching.
In the body: For Leos, Pitta particularly governs the cardiovascular system and the upper back. Leos may suffer from high blood pressure, inflammation, and exhaustion after long periods of self-promotion. Their immune system is strong as long as they feel seen, and weaker when recognition is lacking. Ayurveda recommends rose treatments, sandalwood, cooling rituals, and heart-opening breathing exercises.
In the Soul: The Lion’s soul is here to shine—not to outshine others, but to bring light into the darkness of others. It carries a deep desire for expression, for creation, and for leaving behind something lasting.
Purpose & Soul Mission: The Lion’s soul mission is to live a life of generosity—not just through actions, but through a deep willingness to see others in all their greatness. Your light does not belong to you alone. It is a gift that flows into the world through you.
Potential: The Lion has the potential to be a true leader from the heart. He is someone whose charisma does not stem from ego, but from lived dignity and genuine warmth.
What he can learn: That his worth doesn't depend on applause, and that he shines even in silence. The deepest form of strength lies in allowing someone else to take center stage.
Dosha: Vata-Pitta
Mentally: Virgo is a master of analysis. Their mind recognizes patterns where others see only chaos. They think in terms of systems, tirelessly refining and improving. This precision is their greatest gift. The downside, however, is that their mind never rests, because there is always something left to optimize.
In the body: Vata and Pitta manifest themselves in Virgos particularly in the digestive system, the most sensitive barometer of internal stress. Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, nervousness, sleep problems, and tension in the neck and shoulder area indicate what the mind cannot let go of. According to Ayurveda, warm, well-spiced meals at regular times, Triphala, abdominal massages, and Pranayama breathing exercises can help.
In the Soul: The Virgo soul seeks perfection—not out of arrogance, but out of a deep belief that the world could be a better place. It carries within itself a sacred calling: the ability to do things truly well. Yet this calling becomes a burden when it is directed against the self.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: The Virgo’s soul purpose is to put her analytical gifts to work in the service of life. In doing so, she can learn to treat herself with the same patience she would show a delicate seedling—knowing that true perfection lies not in perfection itself, but in wholeness.
Potential: Virgo has the potential to be a deep healer, both literally and figuratively. When her mind and heart work together, a wisdom emerges that is both precise and compassionate.
What she needs to learn: That “good enough” really is good enough. That the body isn’t a project, but a home. And that self-criticism isn’t a virtue, but often the biggest obstacle to growth.
Dosha: Vata-dominant
In Spirit: Libra is a diplomat par excellence. She sees all sides, weighs them carefully, and seeks balance. She often finds it difficult to make decisions because she recognizes all too clearly what each option entails. This spirit is aesthetically sensitive, intellectually agile, and socially gifted—but she can lose herself in the process of weighing options and make her own position invisible.
In the body: Vata manifests in Libra as a sensitive nervous system and exhaustion following social interactions. The kidney area, skin, and hormonal balance are the physical areas of resonance. When inner balance is lacking, the body is the first to show it through dry skin, sleep disturbances, and exhaustion for no apparent reason. Ghee, rose oil, warm baths, and daily routines are the remedies of Ayurvedic medicine.
In the Soul: Libra harbors a deep longing for beauty and harmony—not just on the surface, but as a state of the world. It visibly suffers from injustice, disharmony, and conflict. And it often sacrifices itself to preserve peace.
Purpose & Soul Mission: Libra’s soul mission is justice—not as an abstract ideal, but as a way of life. Her deepest purpose is to maintain balance within herself and in others. Relationships are her training ground, but not her home.
Potential: Once Libra has learned to be at peace with itself first, it has the potential to become a true peacemaker. Then its harmony will no longer stem from fear, but from inner fulfillment.
What she can learn: To stand up for her own opinions, even when they’re uncomfortable. To make choices without apologizing for them, and that true harmony can only be achieved when her own voice is heard as well.
Dosha: Pitta-Kapha
In Spirit: The Scorpio spirit is a deep diver. It goes where others don’t want to look. It sees the shadows, secrets, and hidden truths. Psychologically, it is highly gifted, intuitive, and strategic. It recognizes patterns that others don’t see. Yet it can also sink into its own depths and build up mistrust as a defense mechanism that isolates it from life.
In the body: For Scorpios, Pitta and Kapha manifest in the endocrine system, the liver, the immune system, and the reproductive system. When old emotions build up—and they often do for Scorpios—this manifests physically: hormonal imbalances, skin problems, digestive issues, and chronic fatigue are the result. A Panchakarma treatment helps Scorpios let go at the cellular level. Bitter herbs, targeted support for the liver, and sweat baths also help alleviate physical ailments.
In the Soul: The soul of the Scorpio is an alchemist. She knows darkness and has learned to turn it into light. This soul has usually been through more than others realize, yet she does not dwell in darkness. And that is precisely her strength: she knows what transformation truly means.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: The Scorpio’s soul purpose is death and rebirth in a figurative sense. They are here to transform old patterns, outdated identities, and inherited wounds—not only for themselves, but on behalf of those around them and often for their entire lineage.
Potential: The Scorpio has the potential to become the most profound healer, therapist, and guide on the path of transformation. Once they have conquered their own shadow, they can also show others the way to the light.
What he can learn: to trust and let go of control without losing depth. Vulnerability is not a betrayal of one’s own strength, but its purest form.
Dosha: Vata-Pitta
In Spirit: The Sagittarius spirit is a philosopher on a journey. He thinks in broad strokes, seeks the meaning behind the meaning, and loves wisdom in all its forms. At the same time, he is impulsive, exuberant, and sometimes imprecise. He sees the big picture so clearly that he overlooks the details. Sagittarius also needs freedom like the air he breathes.
In the body: The Vata and Pitta doshas often manifest in the Sagittarius’ hips, thighs, and the liver area—which, both astrologically and physically, are the center of movement and expansion. If he sits still for too long—externally or internally—energy becomes stagnant. Exercise, nature, and open spaces are their medicine. From an Ayurvedic perspective, warming, nourishing foods, ashwagandha, and sesame have a balancing effect. The suggestion to avoid being in a different place every week also helps Sagittarians.
In the Soul: The Sagittarius soul seeks the meaning of life—not as a hobby, but as a life's mission. It needs a conviction or a belief, something that makes it worth getting out of bed in the morning. Without meaning, it loses its way.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: The Sagittarius’s soul purpose is to teach wisdom through the life he lives. He is here to build bridges between cultures, beliefs, and perspectives. His deeper purpose lies in finding within himself the wisdom he seeks in the world.
Potential: Sagittarius has the potential to be a teacher, visionary, and source of inspiration. When their enthusiasm is grounded in inner strength, they can give others the courage to think bigger about their own lives.
What he can learn: Depth rather than breadth. The ability to endure silence and confinement. The most beautiful horizon isn’t out there, but within oneself—if one has the courage to look.
Dosha: Kapha-Vata
In Spirit: The Capricorn spirit is an architect. It plans, structures, and builds with a long-term perspective that others often lack. For it, discipline is not a virtue, but a matter of course. Yet this spirit can also become rigid and inflexible if it is too hard on itself or leaves too little room for the unpredictable, the lighthearted, and the playful.
In the body: For Capricorns, Kapha and Vata manifest in the bones, joints, and skin. Chronic tension, joint discomfort, and exhaustion after long periods of work are the physical signs. The body rebels when the mind won’t stop. From an Ayurvedic perspective, warming oil massages, turmeric, bone broth, and sufficient sleep—as a non-negotiable priority—can help.
In the Soul: The Capricorn soul is a builder. It is here to create something enduring that extends beyond its own lifetime. Yet it often carries a deep inner rigor that stems from the conviction that it must earn love and recognition.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: Capricorn’s soul purpose is mastery, but not at any cost. Capricorn is here to show that true maturity lies in combining achievement with humanity. Capricorn must learn that they are loved even when they achieve nothing.
Potential: Capricorn has the potential to become a wise elder—someone whose experience and integrity provide guidance to others. When he transforms his inner rigor into inner dignity, he becomes the calmest and most powerful teacher.
What he can learn: to play and allow himself to do nothing. Calmness is not a weakness, but rather the foundation for everything he wants to build.
Dosha: Vata-dominant
In Spirit, the Aquarius thinks in terms of systems, visions of the future, and collective patterns. He sees what does not yet exist and suffers because the world is not yet ready for it. He views the world with great intelligence, in an unconventional way, and sometimes with unsettling clarity. At the same time, he can distance himself emotionally, because his mind is often sharper than his heart.
In the body: Vata dominates the Aquarius’ nervous system and circulation—astrologically, it governs the lower legs and ankles. Chronic restlessness, sleep problems, and overstimulation from digital media often affect them. They feel as though they are not fully present in their bodies, which are classic Vata symptoms of a highly mental nature. Ayurveda recommends daily Abhyanga (oil massage), digital breaks, warm meals without distractions, and grounding rituals.
In the Soul: The Aquarius soul is a vessel for collective consciousness. It feels the hardships of the times and the pain of the world, sometimes without knowing whether the pain belongs to it or to the collective. This sensitive connection is both its gift and its burden.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: Aquarius’s soul purpose is transformation through consciousness. Aquarius is here to embody new ways of living together, thinking, and feeling. Aquarius’s deepest purpose is not only to think about a better world, but to live it—starting with oneself.
Potential: The Aquarius has the potential to be a pioneer of consciousness. He can be someone whose ideas stand the test of time. When he sees his body as a partner rather than an obstacle, his vision becomes grounded and thus truly powerful.
What he can learn: To live in the body and to turn his attention to individual people just as much as to humanity as a whole. Change begins from within, in one’s own lived everyday life, and not just in theory.
Dosha: Kapha-Vata
In the Mind: The mind of Pisces swims in the depths. It does not think linearly, but rather associatively, imaginatively, and dreamlike. It has little interest in rational boundaries; it prefers to move through feelings, intuitions, and symbols. This makes it an extraordinary artist, healer, and visionary. The challenge: the mind can become lost in a fog, mistake wishful thinking for truth, and blur the boundaries between itself and others.
In the Body: The bioenergies Kapha and Vata manifest in Pisces through the lymphatic system, the endocrine system, and the immune system. Common symptoms include exhaustion due to emotional overload, sleep disturbances caused by absorbing the moods of others, or vague physical complaints that are difficult to pinpoint. The Pisces body is highly sensitive. Ayurveda recommends a clear daily routine, pranayama, warming spices, and regularly seeking connection through nature and exercise.
In the Soul: The soul of Pisces is the oldest of the zodiac souls. It carries all experiences within itself and has a natural connection to the transcendent, the ineffable, and the divine. Within it lies the greatest capacity for love and empathy—and, at the same time, the greatest danger of self-sacrifice.
Tasks & Soul Purpose: The soul purpose of Pisces is compassion with boundaries. It is the art of keeping one’s heart wide open while knowing where one ends and the other begins. They are here to heal, inspire, and connect. Their deepest purpose: not only to feel the Divine, but to embody it—in everyday life, not just in moments of stillness.
Potential: Pisces have the potential for the deepest spiritual wisdom. Once they have learned to be in the world without being absorbed by it, their presence becomes a quiet sanctuary for all who come near them.
What they can learn: Setting boundaries as an act of love. Giving their own needs just as much space as those of others. The world does need their depth, but only if they remain true to themselves in the process.
Doshas Throughout the Year: Which Bioenergy Dominates When?
It is not only the zodiac signs that follow the course of the year and change. Processes in the human body and mind also adapt to the climate and the changing light conditions of the seasons. These physical processes are governed by the bioenergies (doshas) Pitta, Vata, and Kapha.
- Spring ( March 21 – June 20): Kapha dominates, Pitta increases, Vata decreases
- Summer ( June 21 – September 21): Pitta dominates, Kapha decreases, Vata is weak
- Fall ( September 22 – December 20): Pitta is strong, Vata is increasing, Kapha is weak
- Winter ( December 21 – March 20): Vata is strong, Kapha increases, Pitta decreases
Thus, the zodiac signs of spring are primarily dominated by Kapha and Pitta, while those of summer and fall are dominated by Pitta and Vata. In winter, however, Vata dominates, although depending on the zodiac sign, mixed types that combine various characteristics are also possible.
